What\u2019s the difference? In fact, a whole range of different variants are currently being sold under these two terms!  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>3-MMC is one of many chemical variations of <a href=\"https:\/\/sidekicks.berlin\/en\/mephedrone\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"9414\">mephedrone (4-MMC)<\/a>.<\/strong> Originally, these new <em>synthetic cathinones<\/em> were developed to get around legal bans. Now that 3-MMC has also been banned Europe-wide, further variants are circulating \u2013 but the old labels remain in use. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you really get<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Under the label \u201c3-MMC\u201d<\/strong> you currently overwhelmingly get <em>2-MMC<\/em> or the much more potent <em>NEP<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Under the label \u201c4-MMC\u201c<\/strong> you currently often actually get 4-MMC, but sometimes <em>2-MMC,<\/em> 4-CMC or <em>NEP<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">(as of March 2026 in Berlin)<\/p>\n\n<p>Only <a href=\"https:\/\/sidekicks.berlin\/en\/drug-checking\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"9855\">drug checking<\/a> can identify the exact substance. However, hardly any reliable knowledge exists about the effects and potential dangers of the newer variants. Using them therefore <strong>comes with additional risks<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Differences<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full infographic\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sidekicks.berlin\/wp-content\/uploads\/3mmc_4mmc_en.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13318\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Users report these subjective differences:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NEP (N-Ethyl-Pentedrone) is significantly more potent and has longer after effects.<\/strong> Dosing NEP like one is used to from 2-MMC will quickly lead to overdose! This can trigger heart palpitations, anxiety, paranoia and other psychotic symptoms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3-MMC, 3-CMC, 2-MMC and dipentylone are less empathogenic than 4-MMC and 4-CMC<\/strong>: They produce a high with greater emphasis on stimulation, rather than on intense social emotions. In direct comparison, users say that 3-MMC feels \u201ca bit more like <a href=\"https:\/\/sidekicks.berlin\/en\/cocaine\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"60\">cocaine<\/a>\u201d and 4-MMC feels \u201ca bit more like <a href=\"https:\/\/sidekicks.berlin\/en\/mdma\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"63\">MDMA<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>At the same dose, 3-MMC and 3-CMC have weaker effects than 4-MMC. 2-MMC and dipentylone are weaker still. <\/strong> Some users try to compensate by increasing their dose \u2013 though that may raise the risk of experiencing unwanted side-effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Some users also report:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some users experience the comedown after 3-MMC and especially after 2-MMC use as somewhat less tough than after 4-MMC use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some find that 3-MMC and 2-MMC produce a less aggressive burning sensation when snorted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some find the odor of 3-MMC and 2-MMC less intense, and find their body odor less affected by heavy use than with 4-MMC.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>What all variants have in common:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>3-MMC, 4-MMC and all other synthetic cathinones produce a strong urge to redose<\/strong>, which may easily lead you to lose control over the amount and duration of use.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The urge to redose increases by amount and frequency of use.
